The underlying problem: tools in pieces
If you look at what's out there, you'll find four families of tools, and each does a slice of the work:
- food cost and recipe apps, which calculate costs and print the label, but stop there;
- HACCP apps, which digitise temperature and cleaning records, but know nothing about what a product costs you;
- ERPs for big companies, powerful but heavy and expensive for an artisan workshop;
- document kits in Word, which sell you a template and leave you on your own.
The result is that you end up using two or three of them together, none of which talk to each other, copying the same data from one to the next. The cost lives in one place, the allergen in another, the record in a third.
KoreLab was born to hold all of this together in a single flow: from the cost of a recipe to the audit-ready file.
Our strengths
1. One single flow, from cost to audit
Others give you food cost or HACCP or the label. KoreLab lines them up in the same place: you enter the recipe, the system calculates the cost, generates the compliant technical sheet with allergens, keeps the records and walks you to certification. You write a piece of data once, and find it wherever it's needed. See the three-phase flow →
2. Change one price, everything updates by itself
This is the feature that people who do the maths by hand love most. When a supplier raises the price of flour, you don't redo twenty recipes one by one: you change the price in one place and KoreLab automatically recalculates the cost of every product that uses that ingredient. You always have the real margin in front of you, not at month end when it's too late.
3. Your recipes like a lab notebook, but digital
Anyone who produces knows a recipe is never "finished": you tweak it, try, go back. KoreLab keeps the history of every version — you can compare two versions, see what changed and go back to the previous one if the new one doesn't convince you. There's also a trials journal with a rating for every production run. Other apps make you overwrite the recipe and that's it: the earlier work disappears. Not here.
4. Beyond mandatory HACCP: we take you towards certifications
HACCP apps stop at the legal minimum. KoreLab starts there but goes further: if you're aiming at a voluntary standard — the ones big customers and retail ask for — the system keeps the manual in order, runs the hazard analysis and shows you where you're ready and where something is still missing. We don't certify you: we prepare you, so you get to the audit without sleepless nights. Explore Quality & Certifications →
5. Records that can't be quietly "adjusted"
A serious record is like a pen-and-paper notebook: you can't tear out the page and rewrite it. In KoreLab a correction stays a traced correction, not an erasure. And if you're asked to trace a lot, you run the recall test in a moment, backwards and forwards along the chain. Many apps "digitise" records but they stay as editable as a spreadsheet: in front of an inspection, having data nobody can touch up is a whole different thing.
6. The consultant works with you, but the software stays yours
If a food safety consultant follows you, they can access read-only and propose signed changes: you confirm and sign too. Everything stays sealed and verifiable. The real difference is another one: many HACCP apps belong to the consulting firm that sells them to you, and you're tied to them. KoreLab is independent. The consultant chooses it as a neutral tool, and you're nobody's prisoner. The page for consultants →
7. No lock-in, clear prices, start free
You start free, forever, no credit card. If you later move to a paid plan, the prices are written on the site and you cancel whenever you want. In our industry 12- or 24-month contracts with exit penalties are still around: we believe a good tool is kept because it works, not because you're trapped. The prices, all public →
8. Built for those who PRODUCE, not for table service
Many "food cost" tools are born for bars and restaurants. KoreLab is made for the workshop: baking weight loss, oven yield, litres of milk becoming kilos of cheese, multi-product lines for distribution. These are the real numbers of those who transform raw materials, not of those who only serve them.
9. Made by someone who's been there
The last one, but for me the first. KoreLab doesn't speak the language of IT people or auditors: it speaks yours. Every feature was born from a real workshop problem, not from a requirements list. When you use it, you feel that whoever designed it knows what you're talking about — because that's how it is.
